but more complicated than that. the tje ending can be applied to
lots of things to mean ‘a small version’ of it, i.e. biertje, a small beer.
but an Amsterdammertje is also those poles that line the streets of
Amsterdam, are brown, about 1 meter high and have XXX stamped
on them.
