Walking around yesterday, had to pick up some things and visit some friends, but something strange happened. I was walking past the Nederlandse Bank, and saw an ornament that was bolted to the wall of it’s parking entrance, clearly visible from the street. This is an important piece that was saved from the destroyed Paleis voor Volksvlijt. So I walked up and framed it, ready to take a picture, but immediately 2 security guards came running up shouting. They wanted to see my camera and pictures. Someone on the radio was barking at them to confiscate my camera. I can only imagine that they were expecting some sort of resistance because of an impending protest that was supposed to be staged there later that day. After examining my ID, and pictures, they let me walk away. I was really not impressed with their behavior. Later I saw the protest. There  were 3 sad, scruffy looking guys with a home-made tent on the front steps trying to talk one of the present policeman out of a cup of coffee. They had a sign, but it didn’t look so impressive. Definitely not enough to warrant the reaction earlier.
